Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary

Are You a Birding Enthu or Bird Lover..?? Than here is the ultimate destination of more than 250 species of birds of different ecosystem at one place.

The Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary, biggest of its kind in Gujarat. With more than 250 species of birds, khijadiya is the ultimate destination for birding experts and photographers. With its unique diversity of land you can visit the marine water and fresh water habitants at the same place with in the viscinity of 6 sq. km.

With its wide variety of ecosystem and landscapes birds of marine as well fresh water, marshy lands, mangroves and salt pans, mudflats, sandy beaches and farmlands are found here.

Fresh water is mainly due to ruparel and kalindi rivers and salt water is because of coastal area. There is a bund that was built before india became independent, that bund prevents seepage of marine water into fresh water and creats a unique ecosystem.

So Where Is Khijadiya And How You Can Reach There..??

Khijadiya Bird sanctuary is just 14 km away from Jamnagar, Gujarat state, India. You can get direct daily flight from Mumbai for Jamnagar. If you want to come by train and feel the journey of Indian railways, than Jamnagar is connected to the most of the part of the country by train.

Here is the perfect location of your destination.

Jamnagar (JGA) – 14 Km From Khijadiya

JAMNAGAR – JAM – 14 fm away from sanctuary

HAPA – HAPA – 5 km away from khijadiya

Jamnagar is a major town. You can find good hotels and food over there. Roverbeing recommend you to stay at jamnagar and hire a taxi for khijadiya bird sanctuary.

Jamnagar is connected to most of the state highways of gujarat. you can find the most convenient highway with the help of google maps shown here.

If you are going by car or by two wheeler, you can take your vehicle inside the sanctuary with prior permission and with nominal charges. but the vehicle sound will distract the birds and they will fly away so i personally recommend you to go by walk and enjoy birding with silent foot.

Birds can be your friends if you follow the rules of nature. silently explore the area without any unwanted noise. Least Disturbance to nature will ultimately help you to understand the nature and feel it.

Here are few amazing birds you can see at khijdiya Bird Sanctuary. Along with birding experts you can easily recognize birds and learn about their lifestyle and from where they belong to. Most of the birds are migratory in between october to march.

The Most Common Problem while bird watching is your limited vision. Even with binoculars and zoom lens cameras some birds are quite inaccessible. Well in that case use a professional high quality binocular. If you are really seriously into birding don’t go for cheap things, spend a little more and you will realize that it’s worth only. The Binocular i use for birding and wildlife observation is Olympus 118760 10×50 DPSI Wide-Angle Binocular (Black).
