Bedini bugyal, one of the most beautiful alpine meadows located at the border of Garhwal and Kumaon in Chamoli district in the Uttarakhand state. Situated at 11,000 feet bedini bugyal seems like the perfect destination for photographers who want to capture the nature at its best.

Bugyal means the high altitude meadows. The most famous bugyals are Auli bugyal, bedini bugyal, dayara bugyal, munsiyari bugyal and panwali bugyals. There may be many others but these are favorites among trekkers. And easily accessible too. These high altitude grasslands makes an amazing landscape and picturesque destination. In the winter they remain covered with snow and in summer it shows their real beauty.

Bedini bugyal is easy trek, difficulty level is not high. So any person with optimum health can do this trek. Garhwal himalayas is home for so many beautiful treks including valley of flowers and hemkund sahib trek. Although Bedini bugyal is one of the best sight for camping in garhwal region.

May to October.

Rest of the time these meadows remain covered with snow. So summer is the best time to visit bedini bugyals.

How to Reach Bedini Bugyal ?



Here is the perfect itinerary to reach bedini bugyals. Various trekking organisations have made the itinerary based on their requirements and conveniences. But the most common way is to reach through wan villege.

Day 1 : New Delhi – Haridwar – Rishikesh

Drive to Haridwar or Rishikesh from new delhi. Its a one day journey, stay overnight either any of the place. Dive into the holy river ganga and leave early in the morning for the next destination.

Day 2 : Haridwar – Rishikesh – Mundoli

Drive to mundoli from rishikesh. Again a one day journey. You can go by cab or by uttarakhand tourism buses by state transport. This is the best and cheapest option who love to travel adventurously. A Journey from rishikesh to mundoli is 250kms, via devprayag, rudraprayag and karnaprayag. Stay at mundoli in tents.

Day 3 : Mundoli – Wan village – Bedini Bugyal

Wan village is the road head destination for bedini bugyal trek. Drive to wan village which is just a 10 kms away. The real trek amidst nature begins from wan village. A walk of probably 11 km will take you to the bedini bugyals, one of the best camping site in the garwahl himalayas.

Day 4 : Bedini Gugyal – Wan Village

Return steps now. same itinerary in reverse as you followed to reach bedini Bugyal.

Day 5 : Wan village – Rishikesh – Haridwar

If you have visited haridwar while going to bedini bugyal,visit rishikesh this time, or else vice versa.

Day 6 : Haridwar – New Delhi

Time to go back to home or any other places. The journey to this amazing destination will end at new delhi.

Flora and Fauna at Bedini Bugyal



Tress like Deodar, Conifers, oaks, cycamore Haldu, Yew, sal, alder, Horse-Chestnut, birch,Willow and chestnut are found here. I have very limited knowledge of trees and medicinal herbs found here, locals of there, are the source of this information. Many medicinal herbs like brahmi and ashwagandha can be largely seen here.

Birds and animals are also an integral part of this ecosystem. There are plenty of birds can be seen while your trek to bedini bugyal or ali bugyal. some of them are white-capped water redstart, himalayan monal, Chestnut-Crowned Warbler and Maroon Orilo. Animals like Black Bear, Monkey, Wild-Cat, Pig, Fox, Goat, Wild-Dog, langur and Snow Leopard found here.

However you may not be able to see many of them. Those who are professional in wildlife and travel purposely to find these animals may get glimpse of them. Real wildlife enthusiast know perfectly about their habitat. Most of the wild animals are very shy, they never appear near places where humans are involved.

Nanda Raj Jaat Yatra, a festival that is celebrated every 12 years in Garhwal region. Bedini Bugyal is an important stop for this festival. It is believed that Nanda Devi used this route to travel from her parents’ home to Kailash Mountain, where she resided with the Lord Shiva. Therefore in the celebration of this journey,  people celebrate a week-long festival and performed a similar journey. And this journey happens once in every 12 years, from Nauti village near Karnprayag to the heights of Roopkund and beyond that to Homekund. Most of the people take part in this journey from Wan Village to Bedini Bugyal.

The majestic mountains of trishul is best viewed from bedini bugyal. Trishul is a group of three mountain peaks and the highest one has an altitude of 7120 meters. You can have the beautiful view of this peak from bedini bugyal especially during sunrise. The peak of trishul early in the morning is worth of all your hard climb to bedini bugyal. In addition to that the sun rays with light orange colors reflects from the ice of the peak looks so beautiful.
